Join us in Celebrating Great Carvery Week 2017

Ireland’s first ever Great Carvery Week takes place this week. It celebrates the nation’s persistent and everlasting love for the humble, yet magnificent carvery. The nationwide KNORR Great Carvery of the Year competition is firmly established as the premier carvery competition in Ireland and Northern Ireland’s culinary calendar, so Great Carvery Week is aimed at giving customers and establishments the opportunity to celebrate and showcase one of the nation’s favourite dishes.

From sampling carvery and interacting with customers across the country, H+A has found that regardless of individual carvery preferences, one thing is unanimous and that is the nation’s unrelenting love of carvery.

To unite all carvery lovers, we have devised the ultimate and epic voyage of carvery discovery: The Great Carvery Loop 2017. Not only will you see all of the stunning beauty our little isle has to offer, you’ll also fuel the journey with the country’s best carvery offerings.

Beaumont House Dublin, is Leinster’s Great Carvery Pub of the Year. As well as sitting down to the province’s perfect carvery, why not pull the perfect pint in Dublin’s famous Guinness Storehouse? A must for tourists and locals alike!

Not only is there life outside of Dublin, there is also carvery! Wexford’s Whitford House Hotel offers the best carvery out of any hotels in Leinster. To keep that lurking food coma at bay, venture out to the glorious 800 year old Hook Lighthouse. As one of the oldest lighthouses in the world and the world’s oldest operating lighthouse, it is a true beacon of light in Leinster!

Next, trek cross country to the People’s Republic of Cork. After all that driving, get out and go wild at FOTA Wildlife Park. Just make sure you leave the cheeky food snatching lemurs behind, before you visit Munster and Ireland’s Great Carvery Pub of the Year, The Elm Tree, Glounthane.

South West is best it seems as Munster and Ireland’s Great Carvery Hotel, The Heights Hotel, Killarney is perfectly situated at the cusp of one of Ireland’s most epic ventures, The Ring of Kerry. Your best bet is to stretch those legs after a hearty helping of carvery and explore the rugged and untouched landscape of the Kingdom.

Make sure to grab a second helping before you  travel up country to Roscommon and The Hodson Bay Hotel, Connacht’s Great Carvery Hotel of the Year. There’s an abundance of carvery and things to do in this little gem of a county. Work up an appetite and visit the 800-hectare park on the shore of Lough Key, where vast and lush meadows, walking paths and a 12th century abbey await you.

Who likes mayo on their chips? We do and so does Connacht’s Great Carvery Pub of the Year, The Merry Monk in you guessed it… Mayo. The vast west coast county offers our carvery voyagers a moment of quiet reflection and digestion as you embark upon the revered climb of Croagh Patrick.

Surf’s up and grub’s up in Donegal when you visit Ulster’s Great Carvery Hotel of the Year, The Silver Tassie. It can be argued that Slieve League is just as spectacular and breath taking as The Silver Tassie’s carvery. Nearly three times higher than the Cliffs of Moher and among the highest sea cliffs in Ireland, they are a must for anyone visiting Donegal.

Keep eating that road, we’re nearly there! The last stop on our lovely loop brings us to Derry’s The Market Yard and Ulster’s Great Carvery Pub of the Year. The carvery has as much character as this city. Step across the Peace Bridge, opened in 2011, it is already one of the most iconic modern architectural structures in Europe.

Our Great Carvery Loop may have to come an end, but our love of carvery will never die. Get on the road with your mates this summer and support some superb local businesses. Petrol may not be cheap, but you can always rely on a good value for money carvery, that is hearty and delicious.

Great Carvery Week runs from 26th June - 2nd July.
